On this day in 1963, well-known RTE broadcaster Frank Hall (right) – father of Hall PR founder Don Hall – was at Dublin Airport to welcome the Beatles to Ireland.
He went there to interview the Fab Four ahead of their only ever concert in the city, held at the Adelphi Theatre on Middle Abbey Street.

Such was the hysteria when Beatle-mania hit Dublin – on a scale not seen before – legend has it that, after the show, John, Paul, George and Ringo had to escape the attentions of their delirious fans by hiding in a newspaper delivery van – said to be one of the Independent Newspapers’ fleet whose printing works were located behind the theatre in Prince’s Street.
